Ballon d’Or loses its value without Lionel Messi, says former Real Madrid and Spain boss Vicente del Bosque

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have both been regarded as the best players in the world. But this year, both players are reportedly going to miss out on the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

Messi has been dominating the best player of the awards list for 10 years.

Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi has won five Ballon d’Or awards. He along with Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been winning the award for the past 10 years. But this year, their names have been missing from the rumoured final three list. Luka Modric, Kylian Mbappe and Raphael Varane are the reported names that are going to contest for the prestigious award. Messi is widely regarded as the best player in the world, so it is natural that some would be disappointed by his exclusion.

Former Real Madrid and Spain head coach Vicente del Bosque has now expressed his dismay at Messi’s name missing from the Ballon d’Or top three. In an interview to Spanish newspaper Marca, Bosque stated that the award loses its value if the Messi is not included.
